WHAT is write for rights?

Sometimes a letter can change someone’s life. That’s the premise of Write for Rights. We’ve been doing it for 16 years and today, it’s the world’s biggest human rights event.

Supporters from all over the world write millions of letters, take action online through web petitions or social media.

This year, for the first time, we’re featuring only women activists to shine a spotlight on the courageous work that they do. There are nine women to take action for, like Atena Daemi, who has been jailed in Iran for speaking out against the death penalty.

Nine is a lot, can i focus on just a few?

Of course! We will be focusing on Atena Daemi from Iran,  Vitalina Koval from the Ukraine, Geraldine Chacón from Venezuela and Pavitri Manjhi from India. These four cases will have the most amount resources available for letter writing events.

YES! Millions of people around the world, go to "letter writing parties" and write letters to decision makers, calling for justice. These letters pile up in their offices and can’t be ignored—imagine receiving a million letters! We supplement these letters with e-mail actions, lobbying, media attention and social media to increase the pressure on those officials. We also write “solidarity” notes to the people we are trying to help, or their families, to give them hope.
